Lists

It’s not only the season of peace, of giving, of white christmases and joy to all, but of lists.
Gift lists, to-do lists, card lists, grocery lists, guest lists, wish lists…
I have a love-hate relationship with my lists.
Without them, I am either completely unmotivated or flitting from unfinished task to unfinished task. I love the [...]

The tyranny of the leftovers

Too little to save, too much to dump,
That’s what makes the housewife plump!
I think I need to ban myself from the kitchen until the kids get the meal clean-up done. I can’t be trusted around those little half-portions that I’d rather waist than waste, if you know what I mean.

The aftermath

Self-destruct is not a nice place to be. And every time I go there it takes me longer to work my way out. Here’s hoping I’ve learned my lesson this time.
I think I’m on the other side. I feel lighter today. My kids probably don’t recognize me. My hair is [...]

Earlier every year

Don’t hate me because I’m festive.
I climbed up into the attic yesterday and dug out our Christmas decorations. I don’t go quite as crazy with it as I used to, but I do make sure our little house’s walls are nicely decked for the holidays.

We remember

I find it all very emotional and I would much rather watch the parade from the verandah so no one sees me cry (“but surely I can be respectful from the verandah!” I insist), but like Mom said, [...]

Go read what Amy said

I’m still trying to recover from my near self-destruct, so the long list of draft posts will have to wait a few more days.
In the meantime, head on over to Amy’s Humble Musings and read this excellent post, and be sure to read Comment #4, Amy’s response to one reader’s question about a line from [...]

First ‘Staying’ Snow

We’ve had a few flakes this week, but today there are more of them, and they aren’t melting as soon as they touch the ground. Very exciting. The Christmas music is playing, the cinnamon candle burning, and I wish I had some apple cider to simmer on the woodstove!

Third Son turned 7 yesterday, and we had a pirate party with the cousins, grandparents and aunts. (The uncles were working this weekend.) Fun, fun, fun!
Thank you to everyone for helping to make the day special.

(Special thanks to Mom and Husband for making the day possible. Without their help, I don’t think [...]
